In replying to my own thread, I received a response from a query I sent to Shanling about this issue (very quickly, as well) and have a solution.
In my case, uninstalling the driver and leaving the firmware updated has solved the issue completely.
If you are experiencing any skipping on your UA1, just completely remove the driver using Shanling's installation tool. Let it get to the step at which it warns you that you already have a version of the driver installed, let it uninstall that driver, and then close out the process.
This solution has provided me with 6-7 hours of uninterrupted, skip-free audio out of a device that I could previously only get 1 minute out of, so I am very comfortable saying that it works perfectly well!
Shanling's customer service was very quick and polite in answering my question as well, so they've risen higher in my books even after this somewhat imperfect experience.
