My review of the Blon Fat Girl that I have won from the Linsoul Discord giveaway.
To start things off, this is my first experience with an iem from BLON, who appears to be mostly known for their BL03 iem and being more budget oriented.
-This iem clocks in at around $10USD
-Stock accessories only and driven off of my Qudelix 5K
Going into the unboxing. The unboxing experience is very simple. Can't really expect much for $10. You get the iems themselves with a mini zip lock of extra silicone tips and a manual. The cable with the 3.5mm end, while non-detachable, feels decent for the most part. The iem itself is also a bullet shape and is easy to wear.
Onto the sound.
Right off the bat, the Blon Fat Girl is a very bassy and thick-sounding iem. I don't feel like the bass on this is well done at all. It sounds very bloated, textureless, and completely masks over the midrange. It at least sounds okay with EDM, and that's about it. It's just a poorly done bass response overall to me in both its quantity and quality.
Things don't get any better when it comes to the midrange. The midrange feels non-existent and pushed back. Everything just sounds very recessed and muffled to my ears. Instruments and vocals together are very unpleasant to listen to and sound too drowned out for me to get any sort of engagement to a track. The upper mids are also boosted to an undesirable degree which leads to some shoutyness that can get a bit fatiguing after some time.
Finally, there's the treble, which to me just sounds quite muted overall. Any treble-oriented parts of my tracks appear to sound blurred over and lack a sense of liveliness. Sheer extension is also lacking, but that can be said for a lot of iems that cost much more than the Fat Girl.
Not going to really delve into the technical aspects since I don't feel like it's worth going into. It's very closed in and congested sounding with no sense of resolution to cut things short.
If it wasn't made clear already, I do not recommend the Fat Girl.
However, the Fat Girl is only a $10 iem, so why the heck not? An issue that I see here is that there are other iems like the Moondrop Chu and the CCA CRA that I find would be much better performers for not much more in price. If you can spare the extra cash for either of those two iems then I would say that you're getting much more of your money's worth compared to the Fat Girl. If not, then I feel like earbuds from the checkout section of your local supermarket will fair just as well.
