My review of the Blon Z200 that I have won from the Linsoul Discord giveaway.
This will be my second experience with a Blon iem. My first experience with a Blon iem was the “Fat Girl” and I will be making some comparisons between the two.
-This iem cost $19.99 USD ($20.99USD for a mic) and comes in 2 colors.
-Stock accessories only and driven off my Qudelix 5k
The unboxing experience is straightforward. You get the iem, a small ziplock of extra tips, a small pouch, and a small manual. The 3.5 mm-ended cable is non-detachable and very thin feeling. Build quality feels quite nice and the fit itself isn’t too bad. I will note that there is quite a lot of driver flex when trying to insert it into my ears.
As for the sound.
My impressions for the bass would be close to a copy and paste of what I felt of the Blon Fat Girl. The bass of the Z200 sounds overwhelming with a heavy amount of warmth and midbass. I do find the bass quality to be a step up from the Fat Girl, but the quantity remains a bit of an issue. I guess I would describe this as a “fun” bass response that may work better for bass-heavy genres.
I don’t find the midrange to be much better than the Fat Girl. The midrange still takes a backseat and sounds more on the recessed side to me. Instruments and vocals do get to stand out a little more but still sound fairly drowned out. The upper mids sound more pulled back which I find helps keep the Z200 from sounding shouty and shrilly. This was more of an issue that I had with the Fat Girl.
The treble doesn’t stand out to me either. I do find there to be some harshness at times which leads me to guess that there may be a peak somewhere. Outside of that, sheer extension isn’t anything special but does feel like a bit of an improvement over the Fat Girl. Overall, I don’t find the treble to be that bad of an offender but it still needs a bit of work.
The technical side of things isn’t something I feel like going into. Just average across the board.
Overall, I can’t exactly recommend the Z200. Even for $19.99 USD, the Z200 is now competing directly with the likes of the 7HZ Zero (and maybe even include the Chu and CRA). I would personally shoot for the Zero if I had the choice between the two. I find the Zero to be much better tonally, and it even has a detachable cable! The very budget side of iems is getting quite competitive, and I think Blon needs to do a better job if they want to compete.
